Outreach:

Outreach | Ways to Serve
------------------------------------------------

Reaching out begins with reaching in. We begin by asking ourselves, with the prophet Micah, "And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God." How we walk with God, what we love, and how we act determine the ways in which we reach out. We believe that God's transformation comes through actively loving others and that "outreach" is not simply an act of giving away, but a process of mutual transformation. Our experience of receiving love is incomplete without giving love, our physical/material satisfaction is incomplete without serving others in their need, our spiritual liberation is incomplete without working for the liberation of others, and most importantly, our relationship with Christ is incomplete without communicating Christ to others.

We want to emulate Christ by identifying with and actively loving people in their struggles, whether those struggles are the challenges of single parenthood, the difficulties of living with addiction, or the pain of those in emotional and spiritual distress. Our desire is that the Kingdom of God would transform need into plenty, injustice into justice, and despair into hope in the Iowa City/Coralville area. We hope to be catalysts for and participants in that transformation as we continue to seek ways to walk humbly with God, to act justly in our community, and to be filled with a love of mercy.
